Developer, Engineer, Traveller, Lover. Oh well, 3 outta 4 aint bad.
I have over 20 years experience in the IT industry, including software development and infrastructure. These days I mostly build sites and applications using Microsoft .NET technologies, although am not a zealot by any means.
I also get involved in the hosting and infrastructure side, with recent experience running .NET web sites in the Amazon EC2 cloud.
Currently I’m undertaking on a year of travelling, freelancing and working on a number of projects – if you think I’d be able to help you with something, please drop me a line and see if I’m available.
I found passion and inspiration in travelling from my beautiful parents who spent time abroad in England and hitchhiking around the continent for 3 years in the 1960’s. As a child I thrived on dad’s slide nights and listen to their travel stories. So it has been my dream to discover a world beyond the walls of our home. I traveled for several years in my 20’s but taking up a career in hospitality and then running my own business to assist small businesses in their finances led me down another path.
Life has thrown me a few curve balls in the past decade and having survived bowl cancer 8 years ago this is my promise to ourselves to jump out of our comfort zones, throw on a backpack with our cameras and take up travelling in South and Central America for a year. Some may call it a middle age crisis, or breaking away from the 9 to 5 treadmill but I call it my 2nd chance. Finally the opportunity has arrived and here we are plunging into a journey to explore, experience, admire, respect and more importantly learn from.
Having no set itineray and loving the idea of ‘slow travel’, Ben and I (the Nobbies) hope we can inspire you with our stories and photos to also seek the little traveler inside you.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
